Daytona 500 Live

Daytona 500 Live: The 2020 Daytona 500 is here, and with the starting lineup set, drivers are getting ready for The Great American Race on Sunday. The Daytona 500 is 500-mile race, made up of 2.5 mile laps that requires 200 laps to complete.

The Blugreen Vacations Duel 1 & 2 at Daytona took place on Thursday at the Daytona International Speedway and were responsible for setting Sunday’s track for most of the drivers.

The Duels at Daytona first saw the single-car qualifying race, which determined the 1-2 spots at the Daytona 500 and the lineup for both duels. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. earned the pole in Sunday’s race, and finishing out the first row for the weekend’s festivities will be Alex Bowman, as he had the second-fastest lap. The times from the other drivers who took the single 2.5 mile lap set the lineup of Duels 1 and 2.

Joey Logano will occupy a spot in the second row after his winning performance at Thursday’s race. He will take the inside row spot, as Duel 1 results control who fills in the inside of the track. William Byron finished first in Duel 2, which determines the outside rows for The Great American Race, followed by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson. The two avoided a near-wreck on the final lap. Byron’s Duel 2 win means he will start fourth at the Daytona 500. Johnson will start sixth.

Logano and Denny Hamlin are favorites to win on Sunday. The speedway announced this year will see a record-setting purse for the 62nd annual Daytona 500, totaling $23.6 million.

Shields vs Habazin Live

Claressa Shields and Ivana Habazin have built quite the rivalry, especially when you consider the two women have never met in a professional boxing ring.

After having their bout previously scheduled and canceled twice before, Shields and Habazin will finally fight on Friday at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the vacant WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles.

Here’s how you can watch:

  • Date: Friday, January 10
  • Time: 9 p.m. ET
  • TV: Showtime
  • Live Stream: Showtime App

The fight was scheduled for August 17 in Shields’ hometown of Flint, Michigan, but a knee injury forced a postponement. Subsequently, the fight was rescheduled for Oct. 5.

However, an altercation at the weigh-in between Habazin’s manager James Ali Bashir and Shields’ sister appeared to lead to an attack of the 68-year-old man moments after words were exchanged.

Bashir suffered serious injuries and the fight was called off. Shields’ brother, Artis Mack was arrested for the attack and charged for the crime. As you can imagine, there is bad blood on both sides, and Shields has vowed to KO Habazin by the sixth round.

Today In: Innovation

Habazin is keeping the memory of her trainer’s attack in her mind as motivation.

“I’ve been thinking about this since October and I have more of an incentive now given what happened,” Habazin said. “I feel like I’m fighting for James Ali Bashir, as well as for my own pride and respect. I’m also fighting for my country. I want to make Croatia proud that I am their daughter, and I feel that I now have their full support.

Shields (9-0, 2 KO) is already one of the most accomplished women’s boxers in history. She has won two world titles at super middleweight and all four recognized world championships at middleweight.

She is moving down to 154 pounds in search of more gold and to further her brand as the GWOAT (Greatest Women Of All Time). If Shields defeats Habazin, the 24-year-old will have won titles in three different weight classes faster than anyone in history.

Shields is determined to put the incident behind her and to dominate in the ring.

“No matter what she says, this beat down was coming in October,” said Shields. “All I’m doing is bringing it to Atlantic City. I’m going to knock her out. I’m going to put down a whole different beat down on her because of the level of disrespect she has shown me. I’m not going to let her be disrespectful towards me and I’m going to knock her out to shut her up.”

Habazin is 30 and has more professional experience (20-3, 7 KO), but the Croatian isn’t expected to defeat Shields. It seems a resolution to this beef is coming in the ring.

The Undercard

In the co-main event, undefeated 140-pounder Shohjahon Ergashev will face fellow unbeaten prospect Keith Hunter. By no means is this card stacked with major names, but because Shields is on the cusp of making history, and with no other major events on TV or live stream, it is the No. 1 choice for boxing fans this weekend.

Alabama vs Michigan

Alabama vs Michigan: 2020 The Citrus Bowl will bring Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh together in a coaching battle when No. 13 Alabama and No. 14 Michigan meet on New Year’s Day in Orlando.

The Crimson Tide went 10–2 this season to play in a bowl game that seems to hold little importance for them. It marks the first time Alabama has missed the College Football Playoff since its inception in 2015. The team took a huge hit in November when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending hip dislocation against Mississippi State. The Tide went on to end their season with a loss to rival Auburn two weeks later.

Alabama will be missing junior linebacker Terrell Lewis for the Citrus Bowl after he chose to forgo his senior season and enter the 2020 NFL draft. Senior defensive back Trevon Diggs will also sit out, and other Alabama players are expected to declare for the draft after the game.

Michigan finished 9–3 in a regular season filled with ups and downs. The Wolverines were 1–3 against Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State and Ohio State and put on their best performance against Notre Dame. If Michigan beats Alabama, it would give Harbaugh his fourth 10-win season in five years in Ann Arbor.

The Citrus Bowl will be the fifth meeting between Alabama and Michigan and the first for Saban and Harbaugh.

Alabama vs Auburn Preview

For Alabama, it’s quite simple: losing would eliminate them from playoff contention, whereas a win in this game could give the team a potential boost in the final standings. This will be the final game before Selection Sunday, and beating a ranked Auburn team could convince the committee to move the Tide from 5th in the nation to 4th, with their sole loss coming from LSU. This won’t be an easy win for Nick Saban’s team, however.

The Alabama head coach seems to think the Tigers will be his team’s toughest test yet: ”So, this is the best team we’ve played, probably, so far this year, and it will be the most challenging place that we’ve played,” Saban said this week. While that may be a bit of a stretch, (see: LSU) Saban is likely trying to prepare his players for what will likely be a very hard-fought battle.

The Tide are scoring 48.5 points a game this season, which is tied with LSU for best in the nation. They will be led by quarterback Mac Jones, who is filling in capably for the injured Tua Tagovailoa. Jones had 275 yards and three touchdowns last week against Western Carolina last week, and he also played well against Arkansas. He will be facing an Auburn defense that is giving up just 16.2 points per game. How well Jones adjusts to the Tigers’ defense will be a huge key to this game. It’s also possible we could see Tua’s younger brother, Taulia Tagovailoa, in this game. He younger Tagovailoa is 9-12 with 100 yards and a touchdown this season.
